The world hypertension is celebrated on 17th May. Overall objective is to create awareness among masses about hypertension commonly also refer as high blood pressure. Mission is to educate people what preventive measures to be adapted to remain healthy and have “Quality Of Life” (QOL). If hypertension persist and not taken care, many complication arises from it.

Hypertension / high blood is silent killer.
World Hypertension Day was first celebrated on 14th May in 2005. The day was organized by World Hypertension League (WHL) now it is celebrated on 17th May of each year
The theme of year 2017 is:
Know your blood pressure.
Why it is important to understand Hypertension
Hypertension is also referred as high blood pressure. It is a condition, which is commonly called high blood pressure. In this condition, arterial blood pressure raises above the normal level which is 120/80mm/Hg. With persistent raise level of blood pressure this medical condition is also refer as silent killer. It does not show any clear or marked symptoms.
Person suffering from severe high blood pressure. they may suffer from following symptoms:
- Irregular heart beat
- Dyspnea means difficulty in breathing
- Fatigue, dizziness or confusion
- Lack or disturb pattern of sleep
- Ringing sensation in ear.
- Disturb vision
If proper attention is not paid to the condition of high blood pressure this may lead to coma.
Hypertension is classified in two types and the disease condition either refer as:
- Primary Hypertension
- Secondary Hypertension
Hypertension type I / II
In both condition, it is due to the causing factors.
The first condition, Primary hypertension) is more common but its causes are unknown.
Secondary hypertension has definite cause which need to be manage or condition to be treated. Listing few of the condition such as Kidney is damage, hyperactivity of adrenal gland, tumor, it is pregnancy related, dysfunction of thyroid gland, disturb sleep pattern, eating inferior quality food and many more reasons (etc.).
Hereditary factor also contributes lot and this can be transfer to children from their parents.
In case of parents suffering from hypertension, obesity, smoking or suffering from diabetes, lack of physical activity, consumption of alcohol or use of oral contraceptive etc. Likely chance their child also suffer.
If high blood pressure is not managed properly or taken care off this may lead to atherosclerosis is narrowing of blood vessel, heart disease which is also refer as myocardial infarction, brain hemorrhage, stroke, kidney or heart failure and may damage eye etc.
In case of primary hypertension, it is easy to manage and can be prevented if we follow recommended guideline for healthy living and quality of life.
In case of secondary hypertension its cause is known or diagnosed. It is serious condition and needs proper treatment or management. If properly taken care than condition can be treated well. In these condition patients has to modify his / her life style which suits best in these conditions.
- Low intake of salt (sodium) – 1.5 to 2,5 g per day.
- Eat low fat diet and consume rich in fiber diet.
- Regular and proper physical activity which should comprises of aerobic exercise and work out. Recommended is minimum forty minutes daily and for five times a week.
- If smoker STOP smoking and no alcohol.
- Increase consumption of green vegetables and fruits.
- Manage your body weight and maintain it. If obese please reduce weight.
- Check regularly your pulse and blood pressure
- Please avoid stress which is hurry, worry and curry.
In a British study which is recently published, this was conducted on healthy young people. They found surprising, shocking and observe changes in the mass of muscle and its metabolism process., their finding was among the participants who did not any do anything for two weeks. With this finding the scientist has stated also warned these changes can increase the risk of developing chronic disease. Such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and may increase chances of early death.
Importance of World Hypertension Day celebration
Objective is to create awareness among masses in respect to maintenance of normal blood pressure for healthy living.
High blood pressure may lead to various complication in the body. This may lead to risk the vital organs of body such as heart, kidney, eye and may also lead to stroke, coma and this may lead to death.
It is easy to know and manage your blood pressure by observing and recording at home with good BP monitoring equipment and stethoscope or visiting your GP or nearby hospital.
As per collected data and published report states that worldwide 30% of people are suffering from hypertension or high blood pressure.
At moment, nearly 1.9 billion suffering from it and it is more surprising 50% (nearly 1.0 Billion) of 1.9 million people are mostly unaware they are suffering from Hypertension. Despite that people who aware of their condition even do not take any necessary action to bring it down to normal level of their blood pressure.
We all need to focus and create awareness among masses to go at least once year for their blood pressure regular checkup. If needed, do act to control and normalize their blood pressure. Follow the advice of their physician.
We need to promote and encourage general public especially young adult to have control of their body weight and maintain it as per BMI, go for checkup of blood cholesterol level, blood sugar level, manage normal blood pressure, Go for healthy living and eating and have daily minimum 40 minutes physical activity and five times a week.
We all need to promote actively in regard to early detection, prevention and control of the hypertension among the young and grown up population. This will lead to better human and more productive resource for the society and country as well for entire world.
